On Stockdale Drive in Holt, just past the golf club, is the Strathnairn Homestead Gallery, a converted 1920's homestead which now houses a wide range of artists working in diverse mediums which includes potters, painters, sculptors, textile artists, print makers and wood workers.

The gallery features regular exhibitions of woodwork, photography, sculpture, glass, textiles, ceramics and jewellery and on the weekends displays and sells a range of its members works.

On the last Sunday of each month you can enjoy a wood-fired pizza, however be warned, bookings are essential and should be made by calling 62542134.

On the other weekends you can enjoy home made muffins and scones with your freshly brewed tea and coffee while you browse the latest exhibition.

One of Strathnairn's most innovative programs is the Artist-in-Residence.

Under this program, successful artists, many of who are from overseas, are provided with a small cottage on the property and, during their stay, produce works that feature in an exhibition. They also conduct courses in their particular discipline.

The current Artist-in-Residence is Swiss potter, Stefan Jakob.

During his time at Strathnairn, Stefan, a former plumber and social worker and now a ceramics teacher, has produced works for an exhibition and also conducted classes including teaching over 20 students how to build a Raku kiln using a 40 litre IKEA pedal rubbish bin.

Mary Porter attended the opening of Stefan's exhibition and was quick to purchase one of his pieces.

The photo features Mary speaking with Stefan about the piece she bought.
