Canberra Gold Award

Dominico & Maria Catanzariti Receiving their Canberra Gold AwardsDominico & Maria Catanzariti Receiving their Canberra Gold Awards

Maria and Dominico Catanzariti recently joined over 200 Canberrans to receive a Canberra Gold Award.

The Awards are presented to those who have lived in Canberra for over 50 years, in recognition of their contribution to our community.

Dominico and Maria, who arrived in Canberra from Italy , live in Nicholls, married in 1957 and have 3 sons and 5 grandchildren. After working for Parks and Gardens , Dominico became one of the first employees on the National Botanical Gardens and remained there until his retirement in 1995.

Dominico was interviewed for the publication "An Oral History of the Australian Botanical Gardens" with 41 pages of the publication being devoted to his recollections. Continuing the family association one of Dominico and Maria's sons works at the gardens.

Barbara Whitbread, also a recipient of a Gold Award, resident of Ginniderra Aged Care facility, she was born in Forrest in 1936, went to Telopea Park school and the old Canberra High School.

She worked as a Nurse in early childhood cetres in Manuka and Civic and active all her life in voluntary work. She can be regularly seen with her husband Don at many of Canberra's live music and theare events.
