Community Fire Units
Thanks to the 450 fully trained and equipped volunteers in the 28 Community Fire Units (CFUs) in suburbs around the ACT with bush interface, Canberra is now a safer place to live. CFU volunteers are now being trained to use the latest state of the art compressed air foam tankers. The CFU's were established after the 2003 firestorm and in her former role as CEO of Volunteering ACT, Mary Porter worked with the ACT Fire Brigade to establish best practice volunteer management. Mary recently attended several training days in Dunlop, Hawker, Cook, Aranda, Bruce and Hall.
