TRAFFIC SAFETY IMPROVEMENT IN HOLT
Submitted by Mary Porter on Thu, 19/01/2012 - 3:34pm.
An ACT Government Media Release
Mary Porter MLA, 15 December 2011 TRAFFIC SAFETY IMPROVEMENT IN HOLTMs Mary Porter AM MLA, Member for Ginninderra, has welcomed the commencement of work tomorrow on the installation of speed humps along Spofforth Street in Holt to enhance road safety. “A number of constituents, who live or travel along Spofforth Street, have raised a number of issues in relation to traffic. I know they will be pleased to see these speed humps installed,” Ms Porter said. “Territory and Municipal Services (TAMS) have undertaken a series of investigations and surveys which have identified the need to introduce traffic calming measures along Spofforth Street in order to control vehicle speeds and enhance road safety,” Ms Porter stated. “Speed humps were chosen as they are effective in reducing speeds, are relatively cost effective, accommodate cyclists and are acceptable for use on bus routes.” The installation of the speed humps, worth $125,000, will commence tomorrow, Friday 16 December 2011, and is expected to be completed by Christmas. Spofforth Street was investigated by the ACT Government’s Residential Streets Improvement Program which ranks collector roads based on crash history, speed, volume and land use information. An action plan was then developed which took into account this information as well as residents’ road safety concerns. Comments were sought by local residents of Spofforth Street via letter box drops and responses indicated support for the proposed traffic calming works. “The traffic calming scheme will be evaluated after six months operation to determine its effectiveness and identify whether any further adjustments should be made,” Ms Porter concluded. »
