SANTA’S BACK ON HIS BIKE!

    An ACT Government Media Release

Mary Porter MLA, December 10, 2011

    SANTA’S BACK ON HIS BIKE!

Today, Member for Ginninderra, Mary Porter AM MLA, rode pillion in the ACT Motorcycle Riders’ Association’s, MRA, annual Christmas toy run held this year in support of the Salvation Army and
    St John’s Care Christmas appeals.

“This ride is very important event that I look forward to, a way to make a difference to those who are doing it tough this Christmas. Families who need a little extra help at this time of year. Receive a helping hand from out terrific motorbike riding fraternity.” Ms Porter said.

Bikes decorated in Christmas tinsel and riders dressed in wonderful fancy dress streamed into Garema Place today, after their circuit to Woden and return, loaded down with toys or food. Many riders dug deep to donate cash as well. This all helps to make Christmas a happier and stress-free time for many Canberrans,”

1000 riders are expected to participate in the event, which has been running for over 30 years in the ACT.

The riders gathered at Old Parliament House for breakfast and then rode to Garema Place, where
Ms Porter presented a number of prizes, including best dressed rider and pillion, best decorated bike and largest club attendance.

The toy run is an international event with motorcycle clubs around the world organising charity rides at Christmas to collect toys and food for donations.

“Canberra’s motorcycle community has always goes that extra mile, not only for this event, but other similar events during the year, including the annual Blanket Run in winter. I am pleased to again be able to support this very worthy cause,” Ms Porter said.
