BOUQUETS NOT BRICKBATS FOR ACT POLICE!

    An ACT Government Media Release

Mary Porter AM MLA, 16 November 2011

BOUQUETS NOT BRICKBATS FOR ACT POLICE!

Mary Porter, Member for Ginninderra, today moved a motion in the Legislative Assembly to congratulate ACT Policing for achieving its best operational outcomes in eight years.

“These figures for the year ended June 2011, demonstrate that ACT Policing has achieved outstanding results,” Ms Porter said “showing a very significant reduction in the level of crimes in several major areas.”

“Most pleasing was the marked decrease in the number of alcohol related arrests recorded in the ACT between December 2010 and August 2011.

“There were more 20 percent fewer alcohol related arrests compared to the same period in the previous year.

“In addition, there was also a reduction of more than 32 percent in burglaries and thefts of motor vehicles.

“The rates of robbery, property damage and other theft also recorded a significant decline and were down by more than 20 percent.

“These results speak for themselves and clearly demonstrate that the solid partnership between the ACT Government and ACT Policing is effective in making Canberra a safer place for all of us to live,” Ms Porter stated.

“The work undertaken by our law enforcement officers is not only difficult but often dangerous.”

“I am sure that all Canberrans will join me in congratulating all AFP officers who have done their part in helping to achieve this significant decline in our crime figures,” Ms Porter Concluded.
