If it’s not too late I would like to wish everyone a Happy New Year.

Our thoughts of course are still very much with all those who have suffered loss in whatever way, due to the floods, in Queensland and now in North New South Wales and Victoria. Our thoughts are also with those in Western Australia who lost property in the recent fires.

I would like to thank all those who are volunteering with the recovery process.

It has not been a good start for the nation. In the ACT we have seen death on our roads already; which is once again a sober reminder to take better care while driving.

With the hot weather, we must once again be sure to watch out whist we or our family or friends are near or in water. Every year we have unnecessary loss of life due to drowning, so let us make 2011 different.

Another hot weather risk is leaving pets, children or the elderly in a vehicle. If you just sit in the car with its doors closed for a few minutes in the sun, you’ll not need another reminder of the risk.

All the best to everyone as you go back to your usual daily routine and remember, don’t hesitate to contact me should you have an issue you would like me to take up on your behalf.
