An ACT Government Media Release
Simon Corbell MLA, August 26, 2010 PROGRESS REPORT ON AMC REVIEWA progress report on the independent review of the Alexander Maconochie Centre (AMC) has been tabled in the Legislative Assembly today by Attorney General, Simon Corbell. Earlier this year the ACT Government commissioned Keith Hamburger to conduct the review of 12 months of operation at the AMC. "This progress report details the methodologies that are being used during the review, a description of the different roles of the review team and a summary of work undertaken to date," Mr Corbell said. "This review will provide an important independent analysis of the first 12 months of operations at the AMC. "The Government committed to providing MLA's with a progress report on the review this month, and today the Government is delivering on that promise." Keith Hamburger AM, who heads the review firm, Knowledge Consulting, has extensive experience in the area of corrective services, and has previously done work for agencies in New South Wales, Tasmania, Queensland and the Federal Department of Immigration. Members of the review team have a range of expertise including corrections management, finances, staffing, security, rehabilitation, stakeholder management, prisoner health and welfare. A final copy of terms of reference for the review was released in May this year. "The review process has so far engaged with a large range of key stakeholders from both the government and non-government sector," Mr Corbell said. "I encourage those taking part in the review to share their views and perspectives to ensure we get a balanced picture of the first 12 months of operation. "I am also pleased to note that the review team has reported that ACT Government agencies have been co-operative and open in assisting the review process. The progress report is now available on the Department of Justice and Community Safety and ACT Corrective Services websites.
