Notice Text

Plans are underway for a $250,000 teenage play area in Belconnen and the ACT Government wants Canberrans to have their say on the type of facilities that should be on offer.

Chief Minister and Minister for Territory and Municipal Services, Jon Stanhope, said the new recreational facility would cater for families, teenagers and young adults.

He said Belconnen residents could have their say by participating in a public consultation meeting.

"The ACT Government has allocated $250,000 for a new recreational facility at the Western Foreshore District Park to cater for teenagers and young people in Belconnen," Mr Stanhope said.

"The new play area will offer a space for young people to play, be active and socialise. It will complement the new youth skate park which is being built at the Eastern Valley Way Inlet in 2011 as well as the existing children's playground at the Western Foreshore District Park.

"The public consultation will canvas options for the facility which will be designed to meet Australian and ACT safety standards and be accessible to a range of abilities and needs.

"The Government wants to hear from Belconnen residents, and in particular from teenagers and young people, on the type of facilities that should be included."

A consultation session will be held on site on Saturday September 11, from 1pm - 3pm and local schools, colleges and community councils will be invited to participate.

Comments can also be provided directly to the Government by contacting Canberra Connect on 13 22 81.
