    An ACT Government Media Release

Mary Porter AM MLA, July 22, 2010

PORTER OPENS NEW COMMUNITY PARK IN HOLT

Today, Mary Porter AM MLA, Member for Ginninderra, officially opened the new community park in Holt.

“Holt is one of eight new community parks to be completed as part of the ACT Government’s $2.4 million investment into revitalising former school sites,” said Ms Porter.

“Design of the new community park has retained and built on existing elements of the former school site. The old school goal posts have been refurbished and continue to provide opportunity for ball games in the open space area of the park while climbing equipment from the former Macarthur pre-school site has also been refurbished and relocated in the park. “

“Artwork in the park features a series of brightly coloured poles and reflects both the former school and new park space. The poles have also been refurbished from old equipment. On top of the poles sit a range of objects reminiscent of the former school including a kite, football and paper plane as well as a selection of birds which reflect the new open park space.

“The new community park in Holt provides gives terrific new opportunities for recreation and socialisation the local community,” said Ms Porter.

“Other play equipment includes a new double swing set and spring rocker. Fitness equipment including chin up bars, parallel bars and push up bars provide people of all ages with a chance to improve their health and fitness.

“The park is complete with sheltered barbeque and picnic settings, a curb stone seating wall and new walking paths.”

Ms Porter said extensive consultation with the community was undertaken during the development of the park to ensure the facilities provided would suit community needs.

“I am please to announce that Holt Community Park is now officially open. I wish the children, carers and local community many hours of happy and healthy play in the new park.”
