An ACT Government Media Release
Mary Porter AM MLA, July 8, 2010 PORTER COMMENDS COMMUNITY CAREMs Mary Porter AM MLA, Member for Ginninderra, today heralded the critical role volunteer care groups play in protecting the environment. “Once again, this week, I have been in close contact with representatives of some of these care groups, and it reaffirmed for me the important role that these groups play in my electorate,” Ms Porter said. “Isn’t it wonderful that these people give their time to protect and develop the wonderful natural environment that we enjoy, so that our children and grandchildren will inherit similarly spectacular surroundings?” Two groups have spoken to Ms Porter this week about the efforts they are making in the community. “I am interested in the progress that FOTPIN is making with respect to its weeding strategy for the Pinnacle,” Ms Porter stated. “This work, almost literally, in my back yard so I naturally have a keen interest in their activities. “Just this week, my office has been in contact with the convenor of the Umbagong Land Care Group, Ms Caroline Wenger, and I am also very supportive of the wonderful efforts that are making,” Ms Porter said. “The fact that there are so many people willing to give their time to care for the land we all share says much about the people of Ginninderra, and indeed about Canberrans,” Ms Porter concluded. Ms Porter is also an active member of the Greening Australia volunteer team that does regular tree planting and restoration work in the Cotter catchment. Statement Ends »
