ON YOUR MARK! PORTER STARTS WORLD RECORD TRIATHLON

    An ACT Government Media Release

Mary Porter AM MLA, February 21, 2010

ON YOUR MARK! PORTER STARTS WORLD RECORD TRIATHLON

This morning Ms Mary Porter MLA, Member for Ginninderra, fired the starting gun for the 2010 Weet-Bix Kids TRYathlon at the Australian Institute of Sport, Canberra, and was there at the finishing line to congratulate the winners.

“The Kids TRYathlon, in its 12th year, is a fantastic event for all young Australian’s to participate in,” Ms Porter said.

“It’s about participation rather than competition, an ideal way for young children to get out and enjoy physical activity. It is great to see 1,200 young people entering in this year!”

This year, the Kids TRYathlon hopes to break the world record for the largest kid’s triathlon series on the planet, set by Australian and New Zealand last year.

“The ACT Government is proud the ACT hold’s the title of Australia’s most active state or territory, we have a high percentage of young people involved in sport and recreation,” Ms Porter said, “we are committed to getting even more Canberra’s active and enjoying a healthier lifestyle.”

“I congratulate Sanitarium on organising another huge event and look forward to it growing again in 2011. We want our young people to grow up strong and fit, I strongly encourage business to take an interest.” Ms Porter concluded.
