PORTER AWARDS COVETED SAILORS

This evening, Ms Mary Porter MLA will be presenting the winner of the 2010 Chief Minister’s Sailing Regatta with the coveted Chief Minister’s Cup. The regatta is run each Australia Day by the Canberra Yacht Club.

“I am sure ACT sailors can’t think of a better way to celebrate Australia Day than sailing out Canberra’s iconic Lake Burley Griffin, this fantastic venue right here in the nation’s capital,” Ms Porter said.

With over 100 boats of all sizes expected to set sail in Canberra’s largest regatta, the race will be a certain to draw a crowd. There will be 7 divisions in two locations on the lake, starting sequentially at 5 minute intervals from 4:00pm. Divisions 1-5 will race in the West Lake / Acton Bay area in front of the Canberra Yacht Club area and divisions 6 and 7 will race in Acton Bay.

“It is great to see such strong participation in local sailing with the Canberra Yacht Club’s membership being in the top 20 largest nationally, which is quite an extraordinary accomplishment for an inland club”. Ms Porter said

The awards ceremony will take place outside the Canberra Yacht Club just after 6.00pm with Ms Porter presenting the prizes and title trophy.
