BROADBAND SENIORS KIOSK OPENINGFrom the Porter Report August 2010 - BROADBAND SENIORS KIOSK OPENINGMary opened a Broadband for Seniors Kiosk at the Belconnen Bowling Club, Hawker, recently. “Broadband is one of the modern faces of social inclusion,” Mary said. “Access to information, the speed and scope of communication that is available over the internet has become an important means of keeping us all in touch with one another.” Broadband for Seniors is part of a $15m Australian Government initiative to increase the skills of older Australians using computers and the internet. The aim is to help older members of the community become better connected, enabling them to discover a whole new social experience on the web. “I was delighted to open this Broadband for Seniors kiosk at the Belconnen Bowling Club. I am Patron of this vibrant community club, and completely support this Federal Government initiative,” Mary concluded. Information on kiosk hours, training and session bookings can be obtained from the Belconnen Bowling Club’s staff on 6278 3376. Community centres, club or other seniors’ organisations interested in hosting a free kiosk can find more information, and can register their interest, at the following website: http://www.necseniors.net.au. |
