LOCAL IT FIRM SECURES MALAYSIAN CONTRACT

    An ACT Government Media Release

Jon Stanhope MLA, August 4, 2010

LOCAL IT FIRM SECURES MALAYSIAN CONTRACT

Chief Minister Jon Stanhope has congratulated local firm, stratsec, on their successful bid for a major IT security contract with the Malaysian Government.

Canberra-based stratsec will provide security consulting, testing and research services to CyberSecurity Malaysia until December 2010.

It the first Australian company to set up operations under the Malaysian Government's Common Criteria Certification and Evaluation Scheme - a global benchmark for IT security.

Chief Minister Jon Stanhope joined stratsec and IT security officials from the Malaysian Government who met in Canberra today to formalise the contract.

"This is an exciting opportunity for this locally owned but globally focused company," Mr Stanhope said. "In securing this contract, stratsec has reaffirmed its reputation as a leading global provider of ‘information security' consulting and testing.

"By establishing their presence in Malaysia, stratsec will be exposed to fantastic new opportunities in the South-east Asian market, helping to generate new business activity for the firm and the ACT.

"stratsec is a stunning example of the strength of the ACT's export sector which generates in excess of $1 billion each year for the local economy.

"The ACT Government is very pleased to support companies such as stratsec through our targeted programs for exporters and our highly productive program of trade missions."

Attending today's signing was the Malaysia Government's Minister for Science, Technology and Innovation, The Honourable Datuk Dr. Maximus Ongkili; the Malaysian High Commisioner, Dato' Salman Ahmad; the CEO of CyberSecurity Malaysia Lt. Col. Husin Jazri; and stratsec CEO, Peter Lilley.

stratsec was recently awarded Telstra's 2010 ACT Business of the Year and has been recognised in the Chief Minister's ACT Export Awards.
