INTRODUCING TOILETSMART PLUS TO CANBERRA RESIDENTS

    An ACT Government Media Release

    Simon Corbell MLA, July 15, 2010

    INTRODUCING TOILETSMART PLUS TO CANBERRA RESIDENTS

    Minister for the Environment, Climate Change and Water, Simon Corbell, today announced a new improved ToiletSmart PLUS Program that will soon be available to all ACT residents wishing to upgrade single flush toilets with a dual flush system.

    "Since its launch in May 2008 the ToiletSmart program has saved a significant amount of water by replacing around 5,000 single flush toilets with dual flush models," Mr Corbell said.

    "Participating householders received either a $100 rebate on the cost of replacing a single flush toilet with a new dual flush toilet suite or for full pension concession card holders' access to a free toilet upgrade.

    "The ToiletSmart program has been very successful to date and now the Government is expanding the program to provide additional services."

    ToiletSmart PLUS will now provide improved pricing for toilets and additional water efficiency options to householders at the time of their toilet replacement including:

    water efficient showerheads;
    tap flow restrictors;
    repairs to leaking taps;
    a replacement of leaking outdoor taps; and,
    a free home water audit.
    "Pensioner Concession Card holders are also entitled to a free home water audit, a free toilet upgrade and a free showerhead which provides a great incentive for our seniors to take part in the program," said Mr Corbell.

    The ACT Government invested $19.1m into rebate programs including the ToiletSmart program in the 2009-10 Budget.

    "ToiletSmart is part of the Think water, act water strategy, which also provides a range of other water-efficiency assistance programs such as the rainwater tank rebate and the GardenSmart advisory service and rebate," Mr Corbell said.

    Registrations for the current ToiletSmart program close at close of business Friday July 16, 2010 and registration details for the upcoming ToiletSmart PLUS scheme will be announced in coming weeks.
