MINISTER HONOURS DEDICATED ESA PERSONNEL WITH COMMUNITY PROTECTION MEDAL

    An ACT Government Media Release

    Simon Corbell MLA, March 10, 2010

    MINISTER HONOURS DEDICATED ESA PERSONNEL WITH COMMUNITY PROTECTION MEDAL

    Minister for Police and Emergency Services, Simon Corbell, has today honoured five emergency services members with the ACT Community Protection Medal, for demonstrating exemplary service to the community in their respective agencies.

    "It is always a pleasure to award these medals to the hard working members of the ACT ESA for their outstanding service to the community in ACT Policing, ACT Fire Brigade, ACT Rural Fire Service, ACT Ambulance Service or the ACT State Emergency Service," Mr Corbell said.

    "Emergency Services workers perform a crucial role in our community, and often do it without thanks, but ceremonies such as this one show that the work the emergency services do is recognised and appreciated by all Canberrans."

    Each year five of the medals are awarded, one to each emergency service agency in the Territory.

    This year the following people have been decorated:
    • Sergeant Stephen Paul COOKE (ACT Policing);
    • Mr Wayne Michael BATTYE (ACT Ambulance Service);
    • Mr Ian MOORE (ACT Fire Brigade);
    • Mr Arthur SAYER (ACT RFS); and
    • Mr Adrian MANNING (ACT SES).

    "I congratulate all the recipients of this highly distinguished medal, and thank them for their ongoing hard work in their emergency services agencies," Mr Corbell said.

    "All five recipients of the medal this year have dedicated their lives to the ACT community, and it is time for us to show our gratitude for the hard work they undertake on a daily basis.

    "It's the professionalism and dedication of these people that goes to the core of the community spirit we see so often in the ACT, and it is important we take this opportunity to publicly recognise and honour those who demonstrate this professionalism everyday during the course of duty," he said.

    The ACT Community Protection Medal is awarded on a merit based system, and is decided based on recommendation by a committee of industry professionals.
