Recently Mary presented Awards at the Tenants’ Art Show.

Each year, the art show competition provides a fantastic opportunity for public and community housing tenants to express their creativity and for the wider Canberra community to enjoy their creations.

The art exhibition, featuring the work of Canberra’s most creative public and community housing tenants, is the highlight of 2009 International Tenants Day celebrations in the capital. The theme for this year’s event, celebrated on October 5, was ‘Tenants Make our City’.

“International Tenants Day, and the activities held to celebrate it, is the perfect opportunity to reflect on the contribution that tenants from public, community and private sectors make to the wider community,” Mary said.

“It is also a great opportunity to raise tenants’ awareness of their rights and the services available to them when things go wrong with their tenancy,” she stated.

The art show featured an eclectic mix of mediums and a glimpse at the creative edge of many tenants.
