Mary Porter welcomed the new recreational facility on the foreshore of Lake Ginninderra following the completion of a 12-metre jetty.

“I am pleased to see this latest facility provided to the people of Belconnen,” Mary said. “This new jetty provides better access for locals and visitors to the water’s edge, affording great views across the lake and to the Belconnen Town Centre.”

Many families enjoy the Lake Ginninderra Foreshore, and this jetty, located within the popular John Knight Park, is close to a playground and picnic facilities.

“It is part of the Government’s $6.5 million investment in revitalising the Belconnen lakeshore and improving the water quality of the lake,” Ms Porter said.

Refurbishment works at the Belconnen skate park, within the Emu Inlet, start in November 2009. Plans for the refurbishment of the Eastern Valley Way Inlet are also underway.

Other works already completed include new picnic facilities in John Knight Park and the western lakeshore, play equipment and drinking fountains in John Knight Park and the Belconnen dog park near Diddams Close.

“New infrastructure and improvements to the lakeshore and inlet, areas create a safe and attractive environment for locals and visitors to enjoy. They will have great appeal to many people, young families, retirees, dog-lovers- all those who enjoy a few quiet moments alone whilst strolling around the lake,” Mary said.
