An ACT Government Media Release
Simon Corbell MLA, 8 February 2008 NEW POLICE RECRUITS GRADUATE TODAYThe ACT Minister for Police and Emergency Services, Simon Corbell, welcomed 16 new ACT Policing constables to its ranks following the attestation of the new officers today. The new officers come from all states, and include six from the ACT. Mr Corbell said that today’s attestation ceremony marked the culmination of 22 weeks of intensive training in which members acquired a broad range of new skills. “In addition to the skills that the officers have learned and developed during their time at the AFP College they will bring with them a host of work, academic, and life experiences which will greatly benefit the ACT community,” he said. “This brings to 113 the number of new ACT police officers to graduate from the college this financial year, and further demonstrates the ACT Government’s commitment to providing the community with a strong and prepared police service.” The graduating class includes officers with backgrounds in such diverse areas as the Australian Defence Force, Retail and Functions management, Fitness Industry, Industrial Engineering, IT and Immigration Consultancy, and the building industry. The first weeks of the new officers’ service will be with ACT Policing Traffic Operations, and following this, they will be assigned to various police stations around Canberra where they will perform Community Policing duties.
